Description
Visualising is a great way to communicate and explain complex and abstract research subjects and ideas in a simple and clear way. Sketches, drawings, diagrams and graphs help both you and others to properly understand the subject and to convey the most important messages. In this practical workshop, you will get to know the most important best-practice techniques which you can apply on paper, whiteboards and flipcharts. You will learn how to break down large and unclear bits of information into manageable and reasonable units before starting your visualisations. After the short input sessions, you will have sufficient time to practice the new techniques in various small individual exercises and to compare your results with those of the other participants. At the end of the workshop, you will be able to further develop your own individual style of visualising.

Content

  • Simplifying complex subjects and ideas on a verbal level: The foundation for visual communication and sketches
  • Using geometrical shapes and forms in order to create a clear visual structure (pyramid and triangle, circle, axis, funnel etc.)
  • The 3-steps model of effective and clear visualisation: Connecting words with images
  • From emblems to Pinterest: Best-practice examples from print media
  • Linking and uniting disparate ideas and topics with lines, arrows and frames
  • The use of different colours and understanding colour psychology
  • Developing your own style of visualising: The two main styles and variations
