Description
Scientific projects today are characterised by a high degree of complexity and planning uncertainty. Scientists are often confronted with seemingly insurmountable hurdles at the beginning of a project, and it is not uncommon for questions to arise such as:

  • How do I find the right topic?
  • How do I work on the topic as efficiently as possible?
  • How much innovation do I need to work on the topic competitively?
  • How much risk is allowed?
  • How do I structure my daily work?
  • When can I say my project goal has been achieved?
  • What rules do I have to follow when working on and documenting my project?
  • Are their further projects in my group I have to supervise? What would be my strategy with regards to supervision?

The workshop is aimed at academics who are planning their own and possibly others project work and would like to plan it stringently. It teaches the basics of project management and offers methods for initiating, planning and structuring project work, also for a group of people (team). Time- and self-management with regards to the different task needed to be fulfilled will be discussed.

Qualification Goals
The participants learn:

  • basics of project management in science
  • to reflect upon their personal goals with regards to their scientific work
  • to develop a project management plan for their own project(s)
