Description
Writing a scientific text is often a major challenge and a hurdle for many young scientists. Little structure, complicated formulations, poor illustrations and imprecise arguments often mean that the message that the text is supposed to convey is difficult or impossible to understand. However, in the scientific context the content must be conveyed precisely and unambiguously.
Scientific writing can be learned. With some tools for structuring a text and building a stringent chain of reasoning, it is possible to communicate even complicated facts and complex data in a comprehensible way. And it is even possible to make exciting stories out of scientific results!
The workshop is aimed at doctoral students in the natural sciences who have already acquired their own scientific results and would like to prepare them for a scientific audience.

Qualification Goals
In this workshop, the basics of scientific writing are taught through theoretical considerations and practical exercises.
The participants learn:

  • the general structure and function of scientific texts
  • the common rules of scientific writing
  • to use linguistic elements in a targeted manner and
  • to structure their texts in a meaningful way according to the target group

Trainer

  • Prof. Dr. Annette Kolb works nationally as a freelance trainer, advisor and coach for academics.
