Representatives of Doctoral Candidates - Summary 2024/25

10.07.2025

Promovierendenvertretung 2024/2025: Michelle Hartbauer, Simon Mertel, Tasmai Paul, Felix Pfaff

Dear fellow doctoral candidates,

As the 2024/25 legislative period ends, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on a year of engagement, collaboration and growth within the doctoral community at the University of Bayreuth.

One of our primary objectives has always been to promote interaction and connection among doctoral researchers. We are proud to say that we once again organised regular Stammtische and other networking events, including ice skating, bowling and dinner gatherings. These informal gatherings created space for interdisciplinary exchange, casual conversation and friendships across faculties. A particular highlight this year was another Show Me event, which offered unique insights into life and research at chair of Metals and Alloys.

We also focused on improving the working environment during our doctoral studies. In collaboration with other university services and contact points, we promoted mental health awareness and helped establish points of contact for individuals seeking support. Furthermore, we facilitated contact with regional companies and offered insights into potential career paths beyond the doctorate, thereby supporting efforts to build bridges between academia and industry.

We also welcomed new doctoral candidates at Kick-Off seminars, where we presented the work of the representatives and introduced the many ways to engage with our community and shape the doctoral experience. Representing your interests has remained a key priority. We actively participated in university governance structures, including the UBTGS Board and the Research Associates’ Council. We also attended meetings of the Academic Senate as guests. Beyond the local level, we engaged with the Landesnetzwerk der Promovierendenvertretungen in Bayern (LaProBay), connecting with peers from across the state. This year also marked an important step towards stronger national representation with the the Bundesverband Promovierende. This federal association aims to unite doctoral representatives across Germany and strengthen our collective voice in higher education policy.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in, supported or simply attended our events throughout the year. Your involvement makes a real difference. We encourage all doctoral candidates to play an active role in shaping our community, whether by attending events, suggesting ideas or contacting the UBTGS representatives.

Sincerely yours,

Simon, Tasmai, Felix & Michelle
