The international advanced course “Global climate changes and pollution: challenges to the immune system, RNA metabolism and stress responses” is a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) of the ERASMUS+ programme. It is offered by the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of the University of Porto (Portugal), in collaboration with the Lund University (Sweden), the University of Vigo (Spain), the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) and the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S) of the University of Porto, Portugal.

Global climate changes and pollution are causing considerable environmental alterations, and impose innumerous threats to Health, as understood in the One health concept, leading to the emergence of new diseases, including pandemics.

In this course, training is offered (including laboratorial) on the combined effects of changes resultant from global climate changes and classic and emerging environmental contaminants, as well as on new technologies and methodologies to investigate and monitor the adverse effects of climate changes in Health, and to find new therapeutic solutions, such as messenger RNA vaccines.

This training is also an opportunity for the students to develop transversal skills, including autonomy, communication skills and teamwork, in a multidisciplinary and multicultural context.
