The aim of the workshop is to improve spoken English in an academic context. The one-day workshop focuses on the English skills needed when networking at conferences, contributing at informal meetings as well as sending emails and telephoning.
This will include:
- Understanding the role of culture on your communication style
- Anticipating typical conversation and small talk topics and preparing the relevant vocabulary
- Presenting your work at a conference or to a working group
- Asking and answering questions. Interrupting. Asking for and giving opinions.
- Emailing and telephoning
Qualification objectives
To gain confidence in speaking English to fellow academics in an international environment.
Trainer
Jill Yates-Wolff is an English native speaker from Great Britain who has been living and working in Germany for over 35 years. She has worked in a university environment for almost 20 years as well as being a freelance coach and translator for business and private clients.
