Description:

Making your research and its impact visible and being able to clearly reference your research output is becoming increasingly important to researchers.
The first part of the course gives an overview on bibliometrics and addresses its possibilites and limitations. We will present different metrics like author-level metrics (H-index), journal-level metrics (Journal Impact Factor, Cite Score), and article-level metrics (Altmetrics) and show how to calculate these bibliometric indicators. Furthermore, initiatives such as the "San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment" (DORA) are presented, which support the responsible use of metrics in research assessment.
The second part of the course deals with different projects for unique author identification (e.g. Web of Science ResearcherID, Scopus ID, ORCID iD). The correct assignment of publications to authors offers the possibility to distinguish one's publications from the work of other researchers (of similar or same name).
The course is aimed at anyone interested in gaining an overview of the responsible use of bibliometric indicators and the different options to identify authors and create author profiles.
Please note: Visibility in social networks such as LinkedIn or Researchgate is not part of this course.

The participants know

  • indicators for journals, authors and articles
  • possibilities and limitations of bibliometrics
  • how to calculate some bibliometrics indicators
  • author identifiers and author profiles
  • how to use author profiles in literature databases to improve the visibility of their own researchThe visibility and impact of research activity is increasingly important to researchers.

For reasons of respect and fairness towards all participants and the workshop leaders, participants who miss more than 10% of the workshop are considered not to be present. You will therefore not receive a certificate and you will not be able to use the workshop in question to unlock funds or acquire further qualifications.

Before you register, please confirm with your supervisor/employer that you are free to participate in the course on that date.
